On March 1, CTIEC and Azerbaijan Norm LLC signed a contract for the construction of the Caucasus’s largest cement plant in Baku. Chairman Peng Shou affixed his signature on behalf of CTIEC.

Located in Baku, the new cement plant undertaken by CTIEC is scheduled to go into production in 2013 and expected to achieve a daily output of 5,000 tons of cement clinker and an annual output of 2 million tons of cement, and will increase the output constantly. Then, Azerbaijan will change from a cement-importing country into a cement-exporting one, and its potential markets include neighboring countries like Georgia, Russia and Turkmenistan.

As a major infrastructural project, the plant will play a significant role in the economic development of Azerbaijan, save annual imports by USD 150 million, resolve the employment problem for 400 people and create 2,500 jobs for related industries such as chemical, transportation and fuel.

With only one existing 1,300,000t/y cement plant, Azerbaijan has to import around 2 million tons of cement every year.
